CATHERINE’S CROWD: Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez provided the inspiration for Catherine Malandrino’s spring collection, but New York City’s Passenger Ship Terminal housed the presentation. Eve politely posed for iPhone photos for fans and agreed to a few voice-overs for the media. In a lean emerald green dress by the designer, she told one blogger, “I support women and girl power, and especially women in fashion.” The Catherine Malandrino presentation was her first fashion week outing for this go-round.

And the Grammy Award winner already seems to have a handle on the long and short of it. “Trends and fashion are always going to be there. But you have to find your own style and rock it to the max regardless of whatever the magazines and TV shows are saying,” Eve said. “Fashion is finding what works best for you.”

Mary J. Blige also greeted guests and posed for photos. “I first met her at one of her first fashion shows at the Apollo,” said Blige, who tries to attend as many of Malandrino’s fashion shows as she can. The soul singer just completed a Christmas album, which will be out Oct. 15, called “Mary Christmas.” Also making the scene were Taraji P. Henson, Katie Cassidy, Niki Taylor and Kelly Rutherford, in addition to business execs such as Arthur S. Levine and Haim Dabah.

Dabah said he expects Malandrino’s collection for Kohl’s “will probably be the most successful design collaboration yet.” Malandrino has designed an 80-style limited-edition line for Kohl’s DesignNation program that hits retail shelves on Sept. 27.
